Attached is the new NEWLIST of email aware photosynthesis researchers
that like to use and ANSWER their email. Access to the Nicelist will
be available at Bionet, both as a regualar file and as a special file
accessible through GOPHER. The old Listserver has become unreliable,
but I am still going to have it posted there (with Jonathan Marder's
help). The problems of using the listserver to store the file

help). The problems of using the listserver to store the file will
probably hasten the abandonment of that method of storage.
Please let me know if there are corrections to the Nicelist.

EMAIL USERS IN PHOTOSYNTHESIS-- THE NICELIST

The Nicelist is not an exhaustive list of all photosynthesis email
addresses. Rather, it is a listing of those persons and
organizations that are "Email friendly" -- those who feel comfortable
receiving and ANSWERING email messages. As a bonus, I am gradually
adding fax numbers as this seems to have become an important parallel
means of electronic communication.
This list is available from LISTSERV @ VM.TAU.AC.IL. You may send
the command GET 00000001 PHOTOSYN in the message block. It is also
available via ftp from VM.TAU.AC.IL in directory Listserv.193 (file
00000001.photosyn).
In the future, the list may be available here at Arizona State
University via anonymous ftp and Gopher. I am negotiating (begging)
with the administration to allow this.
Changes in the list that have been made since February 28, 1993, when
the previous revision notice was sent, are marked with an asterisk.
Deletions made since that date are found at the end of the list.The
spaces in the addresses are provided for clarity only. Omit them
when using the address.
As you are probably aware, I am also the editor of the "Directory of
Scientists Engaged in Photosynthetic Research" which is published by
Kluwer Academic Publishers as a supplemental issue to "Photosynthesis
Research." It is published every 3 years to coincide with the
International Photosynthesis Congress. I have received numerous
requests to make that list available on-line in some manner. The
contents of the directory are copyrighted by Kluwer Academic
Publishers and I have not yet received permission to make it
available in electronic form. I will let you know if this changes.

REMARKS
The key "M" has two meanings between which we have not found it useful
to distinguish. Where more than one person has the same address, it is
obvious that the intended recipient's name must be included somewhere,
typically in the memo header. In some cases, however, single-account
users have indicated that other persons have access to their accounts.
Thus "M" may also mean "non-private." Send confidential E-mail only to
addresses about whose security you are certain.
New users are cautioned that many id's and node names contain mixtures
of numerals and letters. In some printer and screen fonts, you may
readily confuse l with I and with 1, and 0 with O.
Addresses are subject to change, and network outages are possible. We
formerly said "outages are frequent," but things are improving. The
compiler assumes no responsibility for problems! However, we have
amassed a lot of experience and are willing to try to help when all your
local resources cannot.
