I wish all the readers of "photosynthesis network" a very happy and
peaceful New Year. In general, life has been good and promises to
be good in the year of 1994. I give below two quotations from non-
photosynthesis literature for you to think about, evaluate and even
criticize, as you see fit.
PLease do lookout for the historical corner in the November,
1993, issue (an article and a historical chart by Huzisige and Ke
appear there). Also, I promise that you will have fun when you see
the December (1993) issue of "Photosynthesis Research"; it has the
personal perspective of Pierre Joliot and a nice Historical Corner
article by George Cheniae. Three other personal perspectives are soon
to appear: they are by Y. Shen (China), T. Akazawa (Japan) and
A.Pirson (Germany). The perspective by H.Gest is being edited currently.
Hope you will have fun.
Now, the two quotations (both can be evaluated and criticized
and even praised, if you like). They are:
First quotation is:
"All that we are is the result
of what we have thought:
it is founded on our thoughts,
it is made up of our thoughts."
(Source: First verse of the Dhammapada, cited by Geeti Sen(1991)
in India International Centre Quarterly, winter 1991, p. 1)
Second quotation is:
"Then I gazed into my heart.
There I saw him. He was nowhere else."
(Source: Jalal ud-Din Rumi, a Sufi poet who lived in 1207-1273,
cited by Akhtar Qamber in India International Centre Quarterly, winter
1991, p. 65).
Wishing you all a successful and a happy New Year.
Govindjee
