THE TREE - BIOLOGY AND DEVELOPMENT 3rd International Symposium- 11-16 September 1995 - Montpellier (France)
The TREE" congress has three purposes
1-To promote overall concepts of the TREE, by bringing together several fields of knowledge which usually remain isolated from each other.
2-To enhance contacts between scientists working in temperate and tropical regions: botanists, foresters, plant-anatomists, plant-physiologists, horticulturists, agronomists...
3-To provide everyone with an opportunity to get in depth knowledge on the various aspects of current research on woody plants.
SCIENTIFIC CONTENTS
The fossil tree : Structure of ancient woody plants; evolutionary approaches of the tree habit
New conceptions of the tree : Theoretical reflections on plant structure and function
Resources in trees : Resource location; it's development in time and space; use by the plant; transport : Tree and light
Influence of light on shape and growth; effects of light on modification during tree growth; light quality and quantity
Water and the tree : Functional anatomy, active or passive sap transport
Stress in trees : Natural or artificial wounds; pruning; decay; disease; influence of pollution
Relationships between trees : Exclusion or mutual phenomena ; competition
Study of two species : Rubber-tree and walnut
Besides those selected topics, which will be given priority, the Scientific Committee will reserve places for additional subject areas, which could nevertheless be of relevance for the future of scientific knowledge of TREES.
