in relation to proteins. We can not help with respect to carotenoids per se, but
The Commission on Plant Gene Nomenclature can contribute some standard
designations for proteins associated with carotenoids. The primary objective of
the CPGN is to provide designations for sequenced plant genes that will be
common across the plant kingdom. Since gene families in the CPGN nomenclature
are based primarily on the function of the gene product, we also have to be
concerned with proteins.
I have downloaded from Mendel, the CPGN database, a set of gene families
whose products are associated with carotenoids. Further details are available at
http://probe.nalusda.gov:8300/cgi-bin/browse/mendel.
We welcome proposals for new gene names, which may be sent to either of the
two offices of the CPGN Registry (CPGN at BBSRC.AC.UK or reardon at MBCL.rutgers.edu).
