was planning to give some more factual data on Martin Kamen.Martin was
born on August 27, 1913.His B.S. (cum-laude) was in 1933 in Chemistry
from U. of Chicago;his PhD was in Physical Chemistry in 1936, also from
U. of Chicago; and Sc.D.(honorary) in 1969.He was awarded Dr. Hon. causa.
from Sorbonne, Paris, also in 1969.He served as project director of
the Laboratoire de Photosynthese (Gif-sur-Yvette,France) from 1967-1969;
and as a group leader in the Manhattan Project, 1941-1944.He is recepient
of the Charles F. Kettering Award for Excellence in Photosynthesis, 1968;
and is a member of the National Academy of Sciences of the USA, among
others.Other information can be found in the previous message.His
personal life has been very exciting and challenging; he is also great
musicien. Did I spell the last word incorrectly? He used to come often to
Champaign-Urbana to play music here.Govindjee
