Postdoctoral Position Available

We have an immediate opening for a postdoctoral researcher to study the
molecular genetics of starch biosynthesis in maize. Research will focus on
molecular and biochemical studies of various starch branching enzymes in an
effort to understand the functional specificity of each starch branching
enzyme isoform. In parallel, a transposon mutagenesis approach to obtain
mutants in starch branching enzymes has been initiated, and the successful
candidate will continue to characterize existing mutants and to isolate new
ones. The researcher will be part of a team including several graduate
students and three labs (Mark Guiltinan, Jack Shannon and Donald Thompson)
with a common goal to understand the role of starch branching enzymes in the
synthesis of starch and in determining the physical properties of endosperm
starches from kernels of normal and mutant genotypes. Experience should
include a Ph.D. in contemporary plant science research, including molecular
and biochemistry. Experience in maize genetics will be helpful. Penn State
is an Equal Opportunity Employer, and offers an exciting environment for
research in the plant sciences with over 30 individual labs, modern
greenhouses and other facilities. Please send a resume and names of 3
