Question on Cyclosis

Hi all,

I have been involved in setting up science demonstrations for school
children. One of these demonstrations was to look at plant cells
(Elodea) and see chloroplasts cyclosing within the cell.

I would be indebted if you could explain to me what the biological role
of this process is.
