EUROPEAN SCIENCE FOUNDATION WORKSHOP ON "NON-PHOTOCHEMICAL QUENCHING AND
THE XANTHOPHYLL CYCLE - MECHANISMS AND IMPLICATIONS" - 12-15 OCTOBER 1999
- CALL FOR PARTICIPATION FOR YOUNG SCIENTISTS @ SENIOR GRADUATE STUDENTS

The workshop is organized by Shmuel Malkin - The Weizmann Institute of
Science, Rehovot, Israel, Peter Horton - University of Sheffield,
Sheffield, UK and Michel Havaux - CEA, Cadarache, France.

The workshop will be held in the Weizmann Institute campus, Rehovot,
Israel, between 12th to 15th october 1999 (Arrival time: 11th october 1999).

The workshop lists about 25 invited lecturers and is also open to a limited

convenient and equipped with air conditioners. Depending on the number of
registrations it may be necessary to accomodate 2 persons in one room.

The aim of the workshop is to discuss recent development in the field,
bringing together Biophysicists, Biochemists, Geneticists and Plant
physiologists. We hope to cover the following topics: Structure and
Biochemistry of PSII proteins, Spectroscopic Approaches, Suggested
Mechanisms, The Relation of Non-Photochemical Quenching (NPQ) and the
Xanthophylls, Biomimetic Systems, Relations between NPQ and photosynthesis,
NPQ and environmental stress, Genetic Approaches and Long Time - Range
Effects

A tentative list of lecturers includes: Akerlund H-E (Sweden), Andersson B
(Sweden), Barber J (UK), Bassi R (Italy), Bjorkman (USA), Bukhov NG
(Russia), Dekker J (The Netherlands), Frank H (USA), Goss R (Germany),

Interested young researchers should communicate with Prof. Shmuel Malkin,
Biological Chemistry Department, The Weizmann Institute of Science,
Rehovot, 76100 Israel, preferably through e-mail:
bcmalkin at weizmann.weizmann.ac.il or Fax: +972 8 9344118.
Deadtime for application 15 July 1999. Depending on the number of
