Post-doctoral Positions

Professor Jim Barber at Imperial College has two post-doctoral positions
available.

1. A five year position is dedicated to structural studies of photosystem
two, particularly of higher plants. The approach will involve a combination
of X-ray diffraction (in collaboration with Professor So Iwata at Imperial
College) and high resolution electron crystallography. The successful
candidate will be located at Imperial College and have proven skills in
biochemical methodologies (isolation and purification of membrane proteins)
and will receive a training in X-ray crystallography, cryo-electron
microscopy and data analysis.

2. A two year, extendable, post-doctoral position to work on the ordering of
membrane proteins (photosystem two in particular) at lipid and solid
surfaces with the view to create arrays suitable for structural (electron
cystallography, AFM, STM), electrochemical (redox activity), protein binding
studies (Biocore) and biosensor development. The project will be linked
with Link=96ping University, Sweden, in collaboration with Professors Ingema=
r
L=B8ndstr=96m, Bertil Andersson and Bo Liedberg. The successful candidate w=
ill
have skills in biochemical methodologies (membrane protein isolation) and an
interest in surface chemistry. The work will be carried out partly at
Imperial College (London) and partly in Link=96ping (Sweden).

Please apply via email to j.barber at ic.ac.uk providing a cv and names of
three referees by 19th February 2001
