Dear Colleague:

Please accept my invitation to join the International Society
of Photosynthesis Research. The ISPR is a professional organization
of scientists who are interested in the biological process of
photosynthesis. The scope of the ISPR is very broad, ranging from
photon absorption in antenna complexes and primary photochemistry in
reaction centers, through genetics, biosynthesis and assembly of
photosynthetic systems, carbon assimilation and partitioning, all the
way to ecosystem and global level studies. Photosynthesis is an
exciting and fast changing field that exemplifies modern science at
its best.

There are a number of benefits that you will have as a member of the
ISPR. These include on line or paper access to the official society
journal, Photosynthesis Research, as well as reduced prices on
certain publications. The society website includes listings of
available jobs as well as people who are looking for jobs and notices
of upcoming meetings and other resources.

Membership in ISPR also promotes well-being of the international
photosynthesis community: The existence of an active and
well-subscribed international society increases the visibility and
credibility essential to sustaining and enhancing the position of
photosynthesis research among the many science disciplines that
contribute to research in photosynthesis.

The ISPR sponsors and puts on the International Congresses on
Photosynthesis. The most recent congress was in Brisbane, Australia
in 2001, with the next congress scheduled for 2004 in Montreal,
Canada. These congresses are an opportunity to connect with
photosynthesis researchers from around the world. There are sessions
for both specialized and general interest and extensive displays of
instrumentation and publications of interest to researchers, as well
as an interesting program of excursions for attendees and
accompanying persons. Society members receive advance notices of the
congresses and a significant discount on registration.

Becoming a member of ISPR is easy. Just visit the official society
website at http://www.photosynthesisresearch.org/ and click on the
link labeled "Joining ISPR." A variety of options are available for
students and senior scientists as well as a special rate for retired
scientists. Students have a special membership rate of only $10 per
year and now receive free electronic access to Photosynthesis
Research. Memberships are subsidized for researchers from developing
countries. Current and former members of ISPR can renew their
memberships on this site as well. Credit card payments can be made on
line or you can send a check by mail.

I hope you join the ISPR. Please let me know if there are any
problems that arise with your membership application and I will
personally ensure that any difficulties are addressed.

Best regards,
Robert Blankenship
President, International Society for Photosynthesis Research
