Dear friends and collaborators of C. Stacy French (1907--1995) :
I will soon begin collecting material on Stacy French that will help me
begin preparing his biography for the Biograpical Memoirs of the National
Academy of Sciences, USA.
I am familiar with David Fork's obituary on Stacy French in
Photosynthesis Research, I will also have access to Pat Craig's book on
the 'History of Plant Biology at Carnegie' (it will appear this month)
1) May I request you to please send me your personal impression (and
stories) of Stacy and his work that I could cite in the biography that I
will prepare? I am especially interested in your interactions and your
relationships. You will certainly have the opportunity to check and
correct what I write before publication.
2) I would appreciate receiving any information/recollection you may have
on the following topics (see A--D below ) ( I am, of course asking Drs.
Winslow Briggs, Jan Brown and Dave Fork, and a couple of other scientists
); I also plan to physically visit both Stanford and Washington ,DC):
A) French's curriculum vitae that is familiar to you
B) Particular publications you are familiar with and have opinions on
C) His family including any descendants/relatives/ friends/contacts
D) Anyone you know who worked with him (Names; e-mails) and may provide
some interesting information on Stacy.
Any help you can give me will be much appreciated.
Kind regards,
Sincerely,
Govindjee
