: Dr. Ken-Ichiro Takamiya

We were informed of a tragic news that Professor Ken-Ichiro Takamiya
passed away on 21st Oct, 05 in a traffic accident in Sendai.

He, as a professor of Graduate School of Bioscience and Biotechnology in
Tokyo Institute of Technology, has been working on Biogenesis of
Chloroplast, Chlorophyll degradation and on Anaerobic photosynthetic
bacteria. Many of you would remember his friendly attitude and his
excellent organization in 11th International Symposium on Phototrophic
Prokaryotes, ISPP 2003 Tokyo. I can recall how we discussed as students
in Tokyo Univ., as colleagues in Kyushu Univ. on roles of quinones,
chlorophylls and cytochormes. I still cannot believe his death.

Any messages of condolence and support can be sent to
Mrs. Yoko Takamiya, 2285-21 Kanaimachi, Machida, 195-0071 JAPAN,
or to Hiroyuki Ohta (hohta at bio.titech.ac.jp), Assoc. Prof.in Tokyo Institute
of Technology, .
