Sabeeha Merchant, Professor of Biochemistry, at the University of
California at Los Angeles, has won the US National Academy of Science's
Gilbert Morgan Smith Medal for her pioneering discoveries in the assembly
of metalloenzymes and regulated biogenesis of major complexes of the
photosynthetic apparatus in green algae. Sabeeha is one of the 15
scientists selected by the US NAS for the awards; these awards will be
presented on April 23, 2006, at a ceremony in Washington, DC, during the
Academy's 143rd annual meeting. Sabeeha was born in Mumbai (then called
Bombay) and came to US when she was around 16 years old. Congratulations
Sabeeha.
