Two items in this note-- (a) Posting old exams (b) Botany on WWW

(a) POSTING OLD EXAMS
In response to Jon Monroe's concern about posting old exams on the
web for students to review, I have returned each student's hard copy
old exams in a large "Principles of Biology" course for years. It
forces me to produce new or at least slightly modified exam items
each time around, and I think students become convinced that there is
a large pool of items, making it to their advantage to do more than
memorize old exam items. With each new class, these old exams are
aggressively sought out, and I believe it can be a motivating tool as
long as I give the caution not to simply memorize, and not to look at
old exams too early in the learning process.

(b) WWW SITES that many of you may have already seen are of great
value because they each contain an alphabetized directory of many
sites of botanical or ecological interest. They are as follows:

http://meena.cc.uregina.ca/~liushus/bio/botany.html
and
http://biomserv.univ-lyon1.fr/Ecology-WWW.html
