Co-evolution

On the hover fly/nectary co-evolution issue.
It is just speculation, but could deeper 
corolla lobes hold more nectar and so reward
visitors better?  Or could longer lobes
be better for keeping the nectar from drying out
and so accumulate the nectar more efficiently?
Just a set of guesses.  I do not go around 
sticking my proboscis into this stuff...
