Besides sweet gum (Liquidambar spp.), what are some other good
examples of a dry multiple fruit?
Michigan Trees (1980) by B.V. Barnes and W.H. Wagner classifies
sycamore as having a multiple of achenes. I will never forget the
experience of having collected some of the sycamore "seed balls" in
college, placing them in my dorm room and after many days, simply
touching the dry "ball" to pick it up and to find an explosion of the
minute propagules all over the place.
