Given all the different classification memory aids, what are other
mnemonics being used in plant biology teaching?
My favorite is for the symbols of the essential elements. It was
originally C. HOPKNS CaFe, coined by Professor Cyrus Hopkins prior to 1928
using his own name. Don't know if he actually owned a cafe. It can be
updated to C. HOPKNS CaFe ClZn; Ni MoB CuMn Mg, which in words is "C.
Hopkins cafe closing: nightly mob coming with machine guns".
