Basically this refers to stored, viable seeds.
In the US there are several government labs
that maintain various lines of crops and weeds
through production of seeds and long-term storage
of those seeds. It is thus a kind of collection
of species, but is maintained in living condition,
and mostly involves the production and storage of
seeds. Researchers can obtain true-to-type seeds
from these stocks upon request.
