Can the internet substitute for library searches?

David:  It is fairly easy to distinguish between the two query
types you mention in your message. Even so, the first response
we should make to EVERY query --- if the information is not provided by
the student --- is to ask what the student has done already to answer
his/her own question.  That sends the message that local resources
(library, faculty, other students) should be searched before casting on
Internet waters.
