Valdosta State University is primarily a teaching institution. The
biology department is growing rapidly. We are currently working with
architects in designing our new $22.8 million Biology/Chemistry building.
This building will provide much needed research space for all faculty to
support the institutions changing role as a Regional University. The
following is a copy of an advertisement that appeared in Science (October
18 issue) recently. Please pass this message along to anyone who might be
interested in applying.
The Department of Biology is seeking applicants with a Ph.D. for three
tenure-track positions at the Assistant Professor level: 1) Plant
Ecologist; 2) Aquatic Biologist; and 3) Developmental Biologist. The
successful candidates will teach upper-division courses related to their
areas of specialty as well as some combination of lower-level classes
and/or human anatomy and physiology. Appointments begin 1 September 1997.
Research preferences are open for all positions. Applicants should submit
a letter of application identifying the position for which they are
applying, statements of their teaching philosophy and research interests,
curriculum vitae, copies of transcripts, and three letters of reference by
