Greetings:
I am in the early stages of a study involving katsura, a tree native to
China and Japan. As an ornamental, this tree has much to offer and makes
a fine landscape plant. My study will be involving drought-tolerance
between two species of _Cercidiphyllum_ : _C. japonicum_ and _C. magnificum_.
I am in the process of making connections with various botanical gardens
and arboreta, looking for seed sources this fall. I was wondering if any
monitors of this group has access to any seed-producing female trees
(i.e., private collections, campus arboreta, etc...).
Also, if anybody has any valid information on this plant, I would most
welcome it. For those of you not familiar with it, it has a very
interesting taxonomic and paleo-botanical history. To see some excellent
specimens, I would suggest going to the Arnold Arboretum, Morton
Arboretum, Spring Grove Cemetary (Cincinatti), Fernwood Botanical Garden
(Niles, Michigan), and the National Arboretum.
Cheers,
Michael
