POSITION:       Tenure Track Position in Plant Systematics
TYPE:           Full-time, academic year tenure track position in the
Department of Biological Sciences beginning in the 1998-99 academic
year.
RANK:      Assistant Professor

APPLICATION DEADLINE DATE:   Review of completed applications will begin

January 16, l998 and continue until position is filled.  However,
applications received after the above date may not be reviewed.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  1)  Provide lecture, laboratory and field instruction
in
an upper-division course in vascular plant taxonomy and systematics.  2)

Provide lecture and laboratory instruction in lower division organismal
and
introductory biology courses, including some courses with a field
emphasis.
3)  Develop a graduate course in area of specialization.  4)
Participate in
the departmental program as needed.  Normal faculty duties include
undergraduate advising as well as 12-16 classroom hours of teaching per
week.
 5) Establish a research program with potential for external funding
that
will involve undergraduate and graduate students.  6) Serve as the
Director
of the Herbarium.

QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate must have a Ph.D  with a
specialization in plant systematics and evolution, experience with both
traditional and molecular techniques, a demonstrated knowledge of field
botany, a demonstrated ability or potential to develop a research
program,
teaching experience at the undergraduate level and a strong interest in
teaching excellence.  Postdoctoral experience preferred.
SALARY: $37,956  -  $45,672
