The achlorophyllous, saprophytic or mycotrophic plants,
such as Indian Pipe or Pinesap (dicots of the genus
Monotropa), or some of the shoot parasitic plants like
Dodder, should be able to grow in the dark as long as
their food source was present. They might not be able to
complete their life cycle, however, if dependent on light
cues for certain processes, such as flowering, or are
dependent on pollinators active during the day.
