The chloroplasts and I believe even the mesophyll cells of pine have
convolutions. Does anyone have any info on this unique character? One
of my grad students came up with this question and it got me thinking.
Is this a surface area increasing modification as it appears and if so
what for? Absorption of CO2 or is there some other mech. in the outer
membrane? If the cells are indeed also pleated I can't help wondering
how the wall gets into that shape. Has anyone info. on any of this?
