Does anyone have a procedure for extraction and chromatography of
chlorophylls that doesn't use acetone, diethyl ether, and n-hexane? Our
present procedure works fine but the solvents are hazardous and we want to
replace them.
I have heard two rumors about this: First, it's not possible to
replace the present solvents because they are required by the nonpolar
nature of the chlorophylls, and second, that there is a less-hazardous
solvent mixture in use. Both rumors can't be right. Can anyone enlighten me?
