Tenure-Track Faculty Position
Botanist/Plant Taxonomist

Western State College invites applications for a tenure-track position at
the Assistant Professor level starting August 1998. Candidates must possess
a strong commitment to undergraduate education. Demonstrated excellence in
teaching and supervision of students in an active undergraduate research
program are essential. Teaching responsibilities will include general
botany, plant taxonomy, genetics, plant anatomy or morphology, and a biology
course in the College's liberal arts program. The ability to supervise
undergraduate students conducting floristic surveys of the Gunnison Basin
and research experience with montane flora desirable. Responsibilities
include directing the department's greenhouse and curating an herbarium with
8,000 specimens. We seek a candidate who will complement existing research
programs thus preference may be given to those whose research incorporates
molecular techniques, geographic information systems, or scanning electron
microscopy. Ph.D. required.

Western State College is a four-year, state supported institution with an
enrollment of 2500 students. The Biology Program has approximately 200
majors, a comprehensive undergraduate curriculum, and a faculty of eight.
Undergraduate student research is greatly enhanced through a $1.3 million

Gunnison is located in the southern Rocky Mountains at an altitude of 7700
feet, 200 miles southwest of Denver. Western State College is located in a
