dinos--(rather silly)

Dear plant-edders,
  Although the word dinoflagellate appropriately conjures up dinosaur
images, these algae with plates actually got their name from the Greek
word meaning whirling.  Interestingly, that same Greek root also means
terrible, most appropriate for some of the toxic taxa (based on Borror's
book, Dictionary of Word Roots and Combining Forms.
