The longleaf pines in my yard (Houston, TX) produce both male and female
cones each year. I think they're longleaf, I'm a tropical plant
ecologist specializing in orchid ecology so pines are not my specialty.
The male cones are the first to appear in the early spring followed by
the female cones. In these pines its a matter of timing.
