Below is a tried & true formula for learning about the subject. Posting a
basic question like "How do I water my plants?" will probably get replies
you still wont understand because of your obvious lack of understanding for
the fundamentals, if it gets any serious replies at all. It also shows an
unwillingness to read and do your homework, something most experienced
growers don't like spending the time to do for others. If you've never
grown anything before, you need to learn some basic growing techniques AS
you endeavor to understand the cultivation of this thing we call Cannabis.
The Formula
LURK! READ! SEEK! LURK! READ! SEEK! LURK! READ! SEEK! THEN ASK!
The Definitions
LURK=Look at posts & replies that interest you, but make no posts.
READ=Read books & any other texts on the subjects.
SEEK=Use search engines to find information.
When you make your first post to adpc it can be done two ways. One way is
simply to introduce yourself. The other is to ask a question. Introductions
are "always" accepted gracefully by the regulars of the group. A simple
subject line of "Hello" works well, you can mention any experiences you may
or may not have cultivating, and what you think of the group from what
you've read so far from lurking. Newbie questions, aren't always treated as
gracefully by everyone in the group, but it really depends on the question.
It would be a good idea to mention that you have read the Newbie Resouces
and/or exhausted your resources so that the regulars know you at least have
some background on the question you're asking. It's frustrating for many
to spend time replying with good advice only to find the person incapable
of taking advantage of that advice, it's a waste. A little respect for
those who are willing to spend their time paying attention to your needs
or problems can go a long way, IOW the respect will be returned.
BTW an introduction along with a question gets very good results:-)

Also you can add "x-no-archive: yes" without the quotes as the first line
of your posted message. The post will not be archived by DejaNews, etc.
**Hints**
Get PGP but don't install it or unzip it.
Get Private Idaho version 2.8b3, don't get a previous release.
Release 3.4t works very good but handles a little differently than 2.8b3,
Installation is the same.
Read any readme and other files you can find with Private Idaho before
installing it. Part of the installation of Private Idaho can include
letting Private Idaho install PGP for you.

Private Idaho and PGP.
See the !! NYM-O-RAMA !! post for setting up a nym.
Both are posted occasionally to adpc. Private Idaho version 3.3t may not
be addressed in these posts. The menu structure and mail operations are
different, and the program is currently evolving to quickly to keep any
documentation current. It works well though.
My advice is not to start off setting up a nym or using encryption, it'll
just get you in deep water.
First- get PI to work with straight email, without any encryption, just
straight email. Send yourself a couple messages and receive them with your
regular email program to confirm it's working OK.
Then make sure PI can interface with your browser.
Then click on the Remailers|Update Remailer Info menu options while online
to make sure the remailer data is fresh (you will do that frequently).
You'll see the date under the remailer box change.
Second- Use PI to write a small message, encrypt it, and send it to
yourself. Then use the PI Message|Scan for PGP Messages menu options to
scan your mailserver for the PGP message (PI 3.3t works differently).
Then do the same through one of the remailers. When you have received
the message in PI and decrypted it then you can start in on the
wonderful world of nyms:-)

Posting Courtesies

If you reply to a post, try to at least quote (paste) the paragraph from
the post you're reading into the message you're writing. Without that
quote, folks reading just your reply have no clue as to the question or
comment you're replying to. In many cases there isn't even a reference for
one to find the original post.
Out of thread replies make it difficult to keep continuity in the threaded
messages for someone following that thread. Having the Subject header
"exactly" the same "almost" guarantees your reply will be listed on a news
reader under the thread you're replying to. If your news reader (or other
programs you use to post anonymously) can't manage the References: and
Message-ID: headers to make your replies stay with the thread on a news
server header list, try to at least copy & paste the Subject: header. If
it doesn't start with "Re: " type that in at the beginning of the line.
If you reply to a post with the "x-no-archive: yes" header, honor the
posters wish to remain un-archived. Do this by either carrying that same
header to your post, or by anonymizing references to the original poster
in your reply.

Posting Pictures (binaries) Anonymously

adpc is a non-binary news group.
To post pictures anonymously for use with adpc, use a UUEncoder to convert
the picture to a .uue text file. Paste the text of that file into the body
of your anon message, then post the message anonymously as you usually do.
There may be other ways to do the same, but this does work.
There doesn't have to be any explanitory text with the posted picture.
Post it to alt.binaries.pictures.misc (or another suitable binary NG if
that one is not on your news server) and prefix the subject line with
"adpc" so our pics will be listed together on the server.
eg - Subject: adpc yadayada
Once the picture shows up on your server, then make a post to adpc
indicating the exact subject line, binary newsgroup, and (if possible)
the Message-ID of the binary post along with the reason why you want the
NG to look at it. The easiest way to do this is to copy/paste those
three headers directly from the binary post when you check your server.
I think most news readers would see that picture as an attachment. If
yours does not, save the file to disk. Then use your UU decoder to
convert the file to its image format to view it.
Make sure your picture contains no identifying objects, like your face.
In any case, I'll include the URl's to several UU
encoder/deencoder programs mentioned in this news group.

I admit I don't know much about the intricacies of the many MIME formats,
or the plethora of email and news reader programs that use them to various
extents. I simply wanted to find a way to post an image using the identical
software I already use to post anonymously to adpc, and still use PGP
encryption, nyms, and remailers to preserve my anonymity.
The above definitely works with Private Idaho (and should work with any
mail program), but PIs message box has a 32k size limit. Encrypted images
larger than that would need to be broken into smaller pieces and posted as
separate messages with PI. This is very inconvenient for both the poster
and the reader.
The good news is that Jack B Nymble will do all the above without any need
for an external UUEncoding application (its built-in to JBN), it will
handle image files just like your email program handles attachments, AND
it will handle messages well beyond PIs 32k limits. JBN is a very powerful
Win95 anonymity/security resource which I haven't even begun to fully
understand. I do know this. I have set JBNs attachment encoding mode
to UUEncode, attached a 33k jpg image file, and the attached image was
automatically converted to ASCII text before being encrypted for the nym
and remailers. And it was all done behind the scenes with JBNs built-in
UUEncode function, and with no further action on my part. The resulting
50k encrypted message was posted successfully and anonymously. Below are
remailer and nymserver message length stats.

The above chart shows what size messages were successfully delivered by
cypherpunk remailers. This data is a composite of several tests conducted
in the last few months.
Notes:
When data is PGP encrypted, it is compressed. This may
affect your results. The above tests were conducted using
precompressed radix-64 garbage.
Encoding (attaching) any binary file (PGP ascii armor, UUE,
MIME, etc.) may cause it to inflate by as much as 40%.
Each additional remailer in a chain increases the message
length for the first remailers.
