Colleagues,
We are getting ready to purchase a research quality spectrophotometer, and,
since our students do a lot of research it needs to be durable, reliable
and easy to figure out how to use (that last part's for me). The new
machine replaces an HP Chemstation we have had for a long time - the
Chemstation defines the concept "not user-friendly" - so we are especially
interested in specs which are easy to program and interact with.
I'm not talking about intro lab machines such as the faithful Spec 20s or
the Sequoia-Turners. I'm talking about a machine that does scanning across
the spectrum, lets you watch an enzyme assay in real time, can
temperature-control your cuvettes, etc. The two companies I'm looking at
are Beckman and Perkin-Elmer. I would welcome suggestions of other
companies, and especially your feedback if you have a research spec that
you like, or don't like. Thanks for your help,
Kathleen Archer
