Dear Plant Edders, There is an alternative to the notoriously unreliable
lettuce seeds for demonstrating the effects of light quality on seed
germination. Dandelion seeds work beautifully. This was reported at the
teaching poster session of the ASPP Portland, Oregon meeting (see Plant
Physiol. Suppl. May 1994. Poster 977). We know that seeds can be either
fresh or several months old. Paul Clifford, Biology and Biochemistry, Queen's
University Belfast.
