Greetings,
I was discussing possible evolutionary
orgins of the endosperm with my botany class by
making a comparison to the polyembryonic competition
that occurs in pines. One student asked me if the
endosperm and young embryo of angiosperms might
also be in competition, and if so does the
endosperm ever win and absorb the embryo?
Does anyone have any insights into
this? Would the endosperm winning be one way to
produce seedless fruits? What determines the
success of the embryo visa vi the endosperm?
Thanks for any ideas.
