Mike,
I will have more experience to report after this summer when we use digital
cameras in a teachers' workshop in plant biology. However, I have heard
this discussed on several listserves and the consensus was to use
conventional photography in the field because 1) most people already own a
good conventional camera anyway, 2) there is greater control over depth of
field, focus, lighting, etc., 3) you can later digitize a photo slide or
print on a scanner (prices coming down rapidly), and 4) you can use the
slide or print for conventional presentations, publications, etc. I'm sure
others will have good arguments for the digital camera!
