The proposed running order of the programme for the joint meeting of the
Pasture Ecology Group and the SEB Environmental Physiology Group, which is
to be held in Aberystwyth from 6-9 April is as follows:
Tuesday 7 April
Dr. N.R. Sackville Hamilton (IGER, Aberystwyth) "Speculations on the
control of diversity in pastures".
Dr. M.J. Hutchings (University of Sussex) "Resource distribution in patchy
habitats, plant plasticity".
Dr. J. Neuteboom (Wageningen Agricultural University) "Growth and
development characteristics and reproductive strategies of weed species
present in perennial ryegrass swards".
Professor J.P. Grime, R. Hunt, R.L. Colasanti and R.E. Booth (Sheffield
University) "Analyses of species-rich pastures : four approaches".
Dr. Jean-Fran=E7ois Soussana (INRA, France) "Towards a mechanistic
understanding of the coexistence of grass and clover".
Wednesday 8 April
Dr. M.B. Jones (Trinity College, Dublin) "Grassland communities under
climate change".
Professor W.J. Davies (Lancaster University) "Growth and functioning of
graminaceous species when water or N supply is limited".
Dr. Paul Robson (Leicester University/IGER) "The role of the phytochrome
family in determining plant architecture".
Dr. C. Marshall (University of Wales, Bangor) "Ecophysiological aspects of
stoloniferous growth in Trifolium repens L.".
Mr. M. Fothergill and Dr. R.P. Collins (IGER, Aberystwyth) "Aspects of
grass/clover compatibility".
Poster papers offered to date include contributions from ITE, Bangor (N.
Wales), the Department of Agriculture (Dublin), Trinity College Dublin,
Cranfield University, Sheffield University, INRA (France), Wageningen
Agricultural University (The Netherlands) and from IGER itself. There will
be opportunities on the Thursday to learn more about the material available
from the Genetic Resources Unit (Ken Chorlton), to see the constant
nutrient flow facilities (Dr. James McDuff), to visit the Trawsgoed Organic
Unit with Evan Jones to see work on organic pasture and animal production,
or to take a trip to Bronydd Mawr with Mick Fothergill to see upland and
hill work.
There will be a sponsored Buffet with wine on Tuesday evening followed by a
slide show and talk about mid - Wales.
The conference dinner will be at the Marine Hotel on Wednesday 8 April
