Dave,
I don't think it is wise to grow Arabidopsis without aeration. Many plants
will grow "OK" without aeration in hydroponics. I have been using
hydroponics for my salinity research since 1980. Oxygen will diffuse
adequately in the upper couple of inches, but once they grow deeper and
depending on the volume of roots to the volume of solution, the oxygen will
become depeleted rapidly. For optimal growth you need to aerate the
solution. If you are conducting experiments, there is no point in risking
interactions with anaerobiosis. I am sorry I missed the poster at the ASPP
meetings!
