I got Nitella for a cytoplasmic streaming lab from Carolina. They were not
puny--certainly large enough for my purposes. However, I did notice that
the number of plants was not enough so I plan to order double (or a hundred
student culture) next time.
Seasonality could have to do with it. Mine were ordered in October. I
think they grow them in outdoor ponds, so this might just be a bad year.
