Germinating Coconuts?

Does anyone have any insight into the germination of coconuts gained from the
fruit & produce section of groceries?

Are they viable?
Is there a trick to coaxing the coconut palm out of these little wannabe
critters? Is there another source of coconut palms extant on the mainland -
midwest?
