Two Tenure-Track Faculty Positions
The Biological Sciences Department of The University of Texas at
Brownsville and Texas Southmost College (the "Partnership") seeks
individuals for two tenure track faculty positions. The
Partnership is primarily a teaching university, and the successful
applicants will show excellence in teaching courses at different
levels for majors and non-majors, and the capacity to start research
programs involving students. The university is building a new Life
and Health Sciences Building, and the successful applicant will
provide guidance in setting up and equipping laboratories for
teaching and research in both general biology and their
specialties. The mission statement of the institution emphasizes a
respect for the bicultural region it serves, and the applicant must
be willing to commit to this mission. Post-doctoral work and
university teaching experience are preferred.
1. Geneticist (especially population geneticist employing molecular,
biochemical, cytogenetic, morphological or a combination of
techniques), to teach genetics, general biology, and possibly
biometrics. The applicant must hold a Ph.D. in an area of biology
with a concentration in Genetics. Research area is open, but great
opportunity for environmental studies exists in the agricultural and
rapidly industrializing Rio Grande Valley.
2. Botanist with background in Plant Systematics and Evolution, with
the ability to teach General
Biology, Plant Morphology and Anatomy, and Marine Botany preferred.
The applicant must hold a Ph.D. in an area of biology with a
concentration in Plant Systematics. The successful applicant will be
prepared to maintain a regional herbarium of flowering plants and
macroalgae.
