Magnetism effects on plants

I have a science project and I choose to perform it on the effects of
magnetism on plants. The project I thought to do is to place a magnet in

the soil of one plant and then have another plant without one. Has
anyone done this before? What effects do you think I will see. The
hardest thing is to answer the question of "why", if one plant grows
differently than the other. The last question is, how can I assure
myself that other forces hasn't effected this experiment. I'm measuring
the water, having the same light exposure, but am I missing something
her?

Thanks in advance.
