Tree water transport what is left for future generations?

I would like to better understand what is well understood about tree
water transport and what is not well understood about tree water
transport. I have some statements and questions:

The milli and micro tree structures are named and described.
Are there nanostructures yet to be named and described?

Are the microscopic and nanoscopic properties of water understood well
enough?

Is there any good technical writting around that seperates out well what
is very well understood at the milliscale and is the concrete facts of
the field? And then continues into an exploration of the micro and
nano scale world were not everything is understood? ARe there any water
transport mysteries that are current eluding science?
