window plant

You might try the common outdoor/nursery variety of Impatiens. They can
be grown relatively easily from seed and will bloom rather profusely in
window light. If that is not available, a fluorescent nearby will
work. They will not bloom in low light, but will grow and are quite
tolerant of both cool and hot. The light differences could make
interesting experiments.
Perhaps someone on plant-ed can help by telling us how long they take to
reach flowering stage. Someone else planted them for me and I don't know
the time required to reach flowering stage.
