Plant-Eders:
This is an announcement of, and an invitation to participate as an
author or user in, a pilot online project called the Biology Lab
Clearinghouse.
The clearinghouse (BLC) is a database of hands-on laboratory inquiry for
introductory (general) biology. The first contributions are from
authors working at or with four-year colleges and universities, but
eventually it will have material perhaps more suited to the high school
or two-year college. It differs from Research Link 2000 in not being
limited to specific organisms. At this infant stage it has only a few
contributions but we hope it will grow to have much more content and to
have a more sophisticated (and attractive) interface.
The URL is: http://www.udel.edu/BLC/index.html.
One of the motivations for the idea came from seeing recurring inquiries
to this list-serv, for example how to germinate pollen and use it in
experiments. The reoccurrence suggests that the response is not
available in a convenient location to be found later by others with the
same question. The BLC would be such a place. I would like to see
someone submit a manuscript for a pollen germination procedure and/or an
investigation based on pollen germination.
Comments on the plan and suggestions for content are invited.
