ads on plant-ed

Hi Plant-eders,

I received nine replies to David Walker's question: "May we too
advertise on Plant.Ed . Would anyone object?" Some were sent to the
group. Some said no and others said a yes but the average was a
qualified yes. Ad-contaning messages need to hold to our charter and
come infrequently (2-3 per year sounded reasonable). On the
profit/non-profit issue Janice Glime hit on an important point: "If it
is selling something for a profit, then I think we need to be careful
not to set a precedent." I agree completely but that might make my job
a bit more difficult.

So, the obvious ads from companies selling something are easy to spot
and I will continue to screen them out. Others will be forwarded to the
group. If the message says something about being non-profit, I will be
more likely to forward it and I suspect readers will be more likely to
read it ;-)

Thanks for your input.
