Dear Plant Ed Folks,
I received several replies to my question about the mechanism of maple sap
flow.
Dr. Stephen Saupe, who is at the College of St. Benedict/St. John's
University in Minnesota, sent me the link to a webpage from his plant
physiology course, which is fantastic. Replete with references, it gives
great details about how the sap flow is thought to occur. I recommend it
highly to all who feel, like me, that their knowledge of this process needs
to be improved:

Also, Jon Monroe sent a link he found at Ohio State, which provides
additional interesting details:

Thanks to everyone who replied!
Kathleen
