Respiration question

Please see my question. The quote below is from a new botany book,
chapter on respiration.

  "In other words, about 38% of the energy [from glucose] is conserved in
the ATP. The remainder is lost as heat."

Would not some of the energy also remain in the covalent bonds of CO2
and water?
