Assistant Professor of Biology (Genetics)

Truman State University

Position: Assistant Professor of Biology (Genetics), available August  
21, 2006.  Nine-month appointment, tenure-track.

Responsibilities:  The successful candidate will teach a sophomore- 
level Genetics course, Introductory Biology, and, depending on  
specialty, an upper‑level elective course(s).  Research area in  
genetics is open; candidates with expertise in developmental or  
bacterial genetics are encouraged to apply.  Teaching and research  
are mutually supportive activities at Truman; candidates should be  
strongly committed to the ‘teacher-scholar’ model in a liberal  
arts and sciences institution and to maintaining both quality  
teaching and an active research program involving undergraduates and  
M.S. students.  A research laboratory in our new Science building and  
competitive start-up funds will be provided.  Truman faculty members  
also serve as academic advisors and have service responsibilities  
within the University.

Requirements:
Required Qualifications
Ph.D. in Biology, or related field, by August 2006
Research experience in Genetics
Evidence of teaching effectiveness
Evidence of scholarly effectiveness
Preferred Qualifications
Previous teacher-scholar experience at a liberal arts institution
Previous experience mentoring undergraduate research students

Rank and Salary: Assistant Professor.  Salary is commensurate with  
experience.  Truman offers an attractive benefits package including

Program:  The Biology discipline is part of the Science Division at  
Truman State University.  The discipline has 25 faculty members and  
approximately 500 undergraduate majors and ten Masters-level  
students.  The discipline also offers courses in Truman’s Liberal
