Hi,

I've just seen a paper in Molecular Biology and Evolution (Vol 11 #6)
which describes the phylogenetic analysis of foraminiferan LSU
genes. In this paper, the authors show that this group has no
special affinity to any other protist group and it emerges
from the "eukaryotic crown" or "bing bang". I seem to
remember at ISEP this year someone suggesting that based on
SSU work, the forams were related to the "alveolates" (dinos,
ciliates and apicomplexa). If my memory serves me, someone
also suggested that forams have cortical alveoli, like these other
bugs and Cyanophora. Can anyone verify this? Perhaps I
was dreaming!

Cheers
