Protist or Protoctist? The historical arguments aside the term
Protoctist simply has too many syllables! What is more is that
a number of us live in fear of being labled as "Protoctistologists"
and thereby be confused with a certain medical speciality.
The term protist is finally making it into the normal lexicon (this
is the term my eight year old was taught in public school). Let us
reap the rewards of this minor success before trying to "improve"
things further.
