PRELIMINARY ANNOUNCEMENT
The 7th East Coast Protistology Conference (formerly known as East Coast
Protozoology Conference) will be held on May 21-23, 1997, at the University
of Rhode Island, Bay Campus, Narragansett, RI.
This conference is open to all who are inerested in any and all
types of free-living and parasitic eukaryotic unicellular organisms.
Students are particularly encouraged to attend and present papers.
Highlights of the meeting will be a Plenary Lecture by David Caron,
Woods Hole Oceanogrtaphic Institution and a Rhode Island Clambake or
Lobster Boil.
A special workshop will be offered on Ecological Methods for
Protistology. The workshop will include methods for collecting, examining
and enumerating protists. It will feature hands-on examination of local
marine and freshwater ciliates, flagellates and foraminifera. Enrollment
will be limited to 15.
The University of Rhode Island is located half an hour south of
Providence and 20 min from Newport, sailing capital of the East Coast. It
is easily reached by air, train and car.
The topical sessions will be held in the Corless Auditorium on the
Bay Campus, also home to the Graduate School of Oceanography and a stone's
throw from Narragansett Bay. Dormitory housing will be available on the
Kingston Campus. Local motels, hotels and guest houses are also available.
Registration materials will be sent out about March 1, 1997. If
