                       Marine Research Specialist I

Duties and Responsibilities:  Assist, work closely with, and support the
research activities of Principal Investigator. Duties include the
following: rear marine zooplankton nauplii in the laboratory; culture
marine phytoplankton and marine planktonic protozoa in the laboratory;
incorporate and manipulate data in spreadsheets; perform statistical
analyses and prepare summary reports.

Qualifications:  Bachelor's degree in biology or related field plus up to 
two years of experience in a scientific laboratory required. Experience
with laboratory equipment including microscopes, balances, PC computers and
MacIntosh computers required. Experience with live crustacean zooplankton
and with live marine planktonic protozoa required. Must be meticulous and
able to work independently. Must be willing to work with samples preserved
with formaldehyde and glutaraldehyde. Must be able to transport expedition
boxes and to go to sea for up to three months per year. Salary $22,000-
$25,000 depending on experience. Position is limited to one year with extension
contingent on funding.
